About Danielritchie

We Work on Timing

Danielritchie is a garage door repair outfit based on Slater Ave in Huntington Beach. Most of the work is ordinary: hinges, rollers, cables, springs, seals, openers. What we have built the business around is getting to those jobs earlier than people usually let us.

A door that fails without warning is rare. A door that fails after months of warnings nobody recognised is the normal case.

The Local Part

After enough years in one city you stop treating it as one place. A garage on Trinidad Island in Huntington Harbour and a garage in one of the inland tracts off Slater Ave are exposed to completely different things, and their doors degrade in a different order because of it.

Near the water, salt gets to the fixings and into the cable strands first, and it does that long before anything on the door has actually worn out. On the streets facing the Bolsa Chica wetlands, the wind carries fine sand into the bottom seal and the lower track. In the older inland tracts nothing corrodes fast, so the springs simply run out of cycles. In the alley loaded garages behind Downtown and Oldtown, the door usually takes a knock from a tight reverse before it ever gets old.

So the honest advice is not one checklist. It is your checklist, for your block.

What We Ask People To Do

Run the door once a month with the opener and listen to the whole travel. Then pull the release, lift it by hand to waist height and let go. If it stays put, the springs are still doing their job. If it sinks or climbs, they are not.

That takes three minutes and it catches most of what we end up being called out for.

Urgency, Stated Plainly

We put every fault into one of two boxes and we tell you which. Stop using the door now covers a broken spring, a frayed or parted cable, a crooked or binding door, a door off its track, and any door that will not reverse when it meets an obstruction. Book it in when it suits you covers surface rust at a hinge, one noisy roller, a torn seal, grit in the track, and photo eyes needing a nudge.

We are not going to dress up the second list as the first to fill a slot in the diary.
